Summary

Shawn Baker’s Carnivore Diet is a revolutionary, paradigm-breaking nutritional strategy that takes contemporary dietary theory and dumps it on its head。 It breaks just about all the “rules” and delivers outstanding results。 At its heart is a focus on simplicity rather than complexity, subtraction rather than addition, making this an incredibly effective diet that is also easy to follow。

The Carnivore Diet reviews some of the supporting evolutionary, historical, and nutritional science that gives us clues as to why so many people are having great success with this meat-focused way of eating。 It highlights dramatic real-world transformations experienced by people of all types。 Common disease conditions that are often thought to be lifelong and progressive are often reversed on this diet, and in this book, Baker discusses some of the theory behind that phenomenon as well。 It outlines a comprehensive strategy for incorporating the Carnivore Diet as a tool or a lifelong eating style, and Baker offers a thorough discussion of the most common misconceptions about this diet and the problems people have when transitioning to it。

Mark Sisson's Primal Blueprint led me here。 The Carnivore Diet seems the logical conclusion to Primal。 Shawn Baker put out a tremendous case, including all the science and data you need to really dig in。 This is an important book and like Sisson's a potential life changing one。 Mark Sisson's Primal Blueprint led me here。 The Carnivore Diet seems the logical conclusion to Primal。 Shawn Baker put out a tremendous case, including all the science and data you need to really dig in。 This is an important book and like Sisson's a potential life changing one。 。。。more

An honest review from a vegetarian。This is a good book that raises plenty of interesting points and gives you a lot to think about。 Of particular interest were the counter points against common vegan/vegetarian arguments。 These points actually make a lot of sense。My key takeaways are that anything is better than the standard American (read Western) diet, meatless meat is just another layer of processed food in our diet and probably not great for our health in the long run, and that agricultural An honest review from a vegetarian。This is a good book that raises plenty of interesting points and gives you a lot to think about。 Of particular interest were the counter points against common vegan/vegetarian arguments。 These points actually make a lot of sense。My key takeaways are that anything is better than the standard American (read Western) diet, meatless meat is just another layer of processed food in our diet and probably not great for our health in the long run, and that agricultural reform with particular focus on organic animal/plant growth and soil and water health is a far more beneficial to the planet than everyone going vegan and the abandonment of any animal farming in favour of monocrops of grains and vegetables。Everything is not black and white, and the diet space is just another place where this combative style the right/wrong dichotomy dominates。 We need to look at the big picture when considering anything, which if we are honest, we don't: not in politics, not in climate change solutions, not in health, not in energy, not in science, not in religion etc etc etc。I hope everyone can eat the diet that works for them but also be fully aware of the implications of their diet。 I hope we can all work towards eating locally sourced food and growing/raising our own food。 I hope we can move beyond the government guidelines for diet which are woeful and just move away from government "solutions" in general。Thank you for to Shawn Baker and all those carnivore's out there for making me think and for moving us outside the paradigm。 。。。more

A fascinating read。 Dr。 Shawn Baker does a phenomenal job at detailing the science and studies that supports the carnivore diet, the misleading statistics of vegan biased studies, and how to effectively implement the carnivore diet into your life。 There are some truly mind blowing testimonials and data in this book。 I couldn’t stop reading it。 Dr。 Baker is a straight shooter, no b。s。 I highly recommend this book to all those who are tired of being sick and tired。

The book is fine, but full of filler and not well referenced。 Author makes claims yet it’s hard to verify based on what studies。 It seems like there’s plenty of bias。Mind I’m in favour of a carnivore and/or keto diet, but this book does not do much to convince people to give it a try due to little of it being based on hard science。If you're familiar with keto and carnivore diet, just avoid this book and save time。 There's nothing here to talk home about unfortunately。 The book is fine, but full of filler and not well referenced。 Author makes claims yet it’s hard to verify based on what studies。 It seems like there’s plenty of bias。Mind I’m in favour of a carnivore and/or keto diet, but this book does not do much to convince people to give it a try due to little of it being based on hard science。If you're familiar with keto and carnivore diet, just avoid this book and save time。 There's nothing here to talk home about unfortunately。 。。。more

Great book, by a very knowledgeable doctor。Dr。 Baker touches on all the arguments for why a person may want too, maybe even should, adopt a carnivore diet。 Unfortunately, though understandably he doesn't go into details for each argument。 That said the detail is sufficient for most people, for those who want to drive deep into the science I'd recommend going to the Low Carb Down Under YouTube channel。I have personally been carnivore for a few months now and am healthier than ever, and stronger t Great book, by a very knowledgeable doctor。Dr。 Baker touches on all the arguments for why a person may want too, maybe even should, adopt a carnivore diet。 Unfortunately, though understandably he doesn't go into details for each argument。 That said the detail is sufficient for most people, for those who want to drive deep into the science I'd recommend going to the Low Carb Down Under YouTube channel。I have personally been carnivore for a few months now and am healthier than ever, and stronger than ever。 I have even gained weight which has always been a struggle for me。My favorite part of the book was the perspective of health that Dr。 Baker presented。 Health isn't lab tests, it's how you feel。 I believe this is where modern medicine went wrong。 This is likely a big step in the right direction。Thank you for a great book Dr。 Baker。 。。。more

This book makes the thought of a diet, what your eating and why stand on it's head! Wow! Basically: a medical doctor says to just eat meat and drink water。 Nothing else。 Try it。 It is not as crazy as it might sound。

Meat + water。 Maybe hard cheese and eggs。 Maybe dairy。 Possibly coffee or diet soda。 No vegetables or fruit。 Extreme keto。 I’m not sure what to think yet。 The book makes good arguments。 I need to find a vegan to discuss it with。

I was inspired by a friend to try the carnivore diet for a couple days last spring。 Now I'm trying the diet again, so I figured I'd read a book about it for knowledge and inspiration。 I wasn't disappointed!Shawn Baker is a former orthopedic surgeon who was targeted by his own profession for consulting with patients and advising them to lose weight and get healthy prior to making a decision about surgery。 As a pariah, Baker's insight into the medical profession and the field of nutrition is refre I was inspired by a friend to try the carnivore diet for a couple days last spring。 Now I'm trying the diet again, so I figured I'd read a book about it for knowledge and inspiration。 I wasn't disappointed!Shawn Baker is a former orthopedic surgeon who was targeted by his own profession for consulting with patients and advising them to lose weight and get healthy prior to making a decision about surgery。 As a pariah, Baker's insight into the medical profession and the field of nutrition is refreshing。Some background context: I've read multiple books that recommend a vegetarian or mostly vegetarian diet (minus processed sugar) as the optimal diet for health。 I've also read books and watched multiple documentaries that suggest eating meat harms the environment and contributes to "global warming。"While I've never bought into the "cow farts" theory of climate change, I had been convinced that a diet rich in whole fruits and vegetables was healthy。。。 convinced to the point that I even tried eating vegetarian for about a couple of weeks a year ago。 But I personally experienced low energy on a vegetarian diet and did not continue。Anyway, the results my friend achieved on the diet seemed extraordinary to me。 All his blood work and heart tests have come back perfect even after eating nothing but meat for nearly 2 years。 That was enough evidence for me to try the carnivore diet。 (I'm on my 8th day as of this writing。)I think what shocked me most about this particular book was the realization that vegetables in particular are not healthy for humans。 (!!) It is still hard for me to even write that sentence given my lifelong faith in vegetables to produce health in humans。It's like one of those "Everybody knows。。。" statements。 "Everybody knows vegetables are healthy。" Well, I've thoroughly believed that for my 41 years on earth, so it is difficult to let that belief go。The 2nd most shocking realization I had was that multiple organizations have incentives to promote vegetarian diets, and those incentives are not necessarily based on health outcomes:1。 The packaged food industry in particular has a huge financial incentive to promote vegetarian diets。 Vegetarians generally do not replace lost meat calories with more whole fruits and veggies。 Rather, they replace those lost calories with vegetable oils and packaged processed foods。 The food industry knows this and is therefore incentivized to promote vegetarianism。2。 The Seventh-Day Adventists promote a vegetarian lifestyle and, coincidentally, also control a number of hospitals around the country。 I don't think the hospitals promote vegetarianism, but the religion itself is highly invested in their religious point of view。There is the typical cliche chapter in Baker's book that conjectures about what ancient man ate and why he ate it and why we should eat what ancient man ate, etc。 I skimmed this chapter。 Ironically, later in the book, after referencing evolution and ancient man, Baker repeatedly says our bodies were "designed" for certain things。 The contradiction here is that evolution and design are not compatible。Otherwise, this is an excellent book, and I highly recommend it if you'd like to try or just learn more about the carnivore diet。 。。。more

Great read if you're contemplating an all meat based diet。 Shawn Baker does an excellent job sharing why it may not be a bad idea, but he doesn't try to say it's the only way to eat。 It didn't fully convince me to go carnivore but I do have all meat days when I need to have a reset due to carb overload the day before。 I mainly do a 90/10 way of eating where meat is my primary source of fuel, but I allow myself to have certain vegetables like avocado, or cabbage, and condiments like hot sauce and Great read if you're contemplating an all meat based diet。 Shawn Baker does an excellent job sharing why it may not be a bad idea, but he doesn't try to say it's the only way to eat。 It didn't fully convince me to go carnivore but I do have all meat days when I need to have a reset due to carb overload the day before。 I mainly do a 90/10 way of eating where meat is my primary source of fuel, but I allow myself to have certain vegetables like avocado, or cabbage, and condiments like hot sauce and mustard。 I have lost nearly 70 lbs doing this and I feel great, but I'm still fully on board with experimenting with yourself because what works for me may be tedious and difficult to follow for others, and Shawn Baker seems to say the same thing in this book。 A carnivore diet worked for him and all he's saying is its worth a try and he'll share some science findings to argue that it isn't a bad idea despite the media making it seem like it is a bad idea to eat more meat。 He's not trying to sell this as a "Dietary Bible " so to speak。 。。。more

After being a vagitarian and even raw vegan this book is quite something different and made me realise that for years I have been giving myself not enough nutricious food。 I am very glad to have read this bood, which gives a total new perspective on food and ideas that have been brought into my mind from the beginning。Now I have a good basic understanding what I can do and why you should eat meat to heal my body。 Can’t wait to start!

I enjoyed this。 Of I guess the two better known carnivore diet advocating docs (the other being Paul Saladino) Shawn is a bit less intimidating and purest with what he advocates。 He says worrying about organ meats and protein/fat ratios, linoleic acid in grain fed animals and some other minutiae that others focus on is not that necessary。 Found it inspiring and sensible。 Particularly useful in combating some of the vegan arguments。

Venedict Stollas
